Here are little fun pieces. I'm curious how people will respond to them at the upcoming ACC show.
Caring is the core of our strength to fight for what is right. It is possible to make a difference in a matter we care about.
The passenger pigeons represent vulnerabilities on the earth. Billions of them used to migrate across North America. They were so many that no one foresaw that humans (hunting and deforestation) could drive them to the extinction. By the time people realized the significant decline in the numbers, the species that needed vast numbers to sustain itself could no longer thrive. In the sculpture, the woman is caring for the vulnerable. Hearten by her goodness, the birds are now incubating an egg (the future).
Sending "Happy Spring" to everyone with this piece!
Beauty of "the content of character" is the theme here, encouraging us to look beyond the physical appearance. The juvenile sparrow represents "ordinariness." Don't some of us lament upon how ordinary (and boring) we are? As the bird flies out of the nest into the vastness of the sky (the future), it is going to create a beautiful life unique only to itself. We just have to realize each of us carries such unique beauty within ourselves.
