With a divorce, he lost his business and property. Thinking a master degree in business might help him land on a management job, he returned to school and graduated from it with straight A's. A quarrel with a professor, however, made him give up a Ph.D. program. Overqualified, all he could get were now minimum wage jobs. He hated his managers, who were half his age. Here is a fun piece. The first ceramic bell I made was sold before I had a chance to photograph it. Encouraged by it, I am making a few, all of which will have ethnic characteristics.
When I asked the 65-year-old model to think of something very sad, she began to bawl, repeating to herself, "I'm no good." She had just crossed the US continent to see a man, whom she had long adored. He, however, had shown no interest in her. Detrimental to her ego, her love had flirted with a young woman in her presence. "I'm so damn stupid," she repeated with tears pouring out.
The man failed to see her true beauty adorned in her extraordinary generosity and resilience. It was his loss, not hers. We, her close friends, knew that, but with her heart shattered, she could not see it. She has bounced back since then. She is taking out her savings in order to go to a mission in Ethiopia. An item on her bucket list will soon be checked out. |
