Attempted to Sculpt Midlife Crisis

I told some of my friends, "I want to express Midlife Crisis in my art." This is my first attempt in that and titled "Her Spanish Inquisition." It is an expression of how we women sometimes judge our own aging appearances. The lamb, her eternal comfort, is sitting behind her ear.

I spend a crazy amount of time lately looking at ceramic sculpture online - I'm just getting started, at 64, and there's something about this medium that's endlessly fascinating. As you know.
But I'm writing to tell you that I just stumbled across your site, and Midlife Crisis, and to tell you that I actually burst out crying. I'm not a very tearful sort and none of the hundreds and hundreds of works that I've admired have moved me like that.
Because she's so beautiful, isn't she? - with her toady hat and comforting lamb. So that was wonderful.

And then I thought that if I'd made it I might be interested to hear about that small and private event, the way even a photograph of something one's created can rattle and warm the heart of a stranger far away. Be well, and happy, and at ease, and thanks.

Hi Becca,
Thank you very much for your comment. I treasured the fact my art had reached your heart to the point that it made you cry.

I shall tell you a bit about the model. She is around your age. When I asked her to think of something very sad, she began to cry, repeating to herself, "I'm no good. I'm stupid." She had just returned from a trip to see a man whom she had adored. He had not only shown any interest in her, but also had flirted with a woman 20 years younger than her.

Her heart had regained strength since then. She is currently preparing herself to go to a mission in Ethiopia. I truly admire her. She may someday meet a man who will love and respect her for who she is, but even if not, her friends know how beautiful she, adorned in her resilience, is.

Enjoy experimenting with clay! It is indeed a "endlessly fascinating" medium. Thank you.
